It is our pleasure to introduce our breathtaking creation, exclusively for Smyth, The Smyth Princess Cut Diamond. This custom cut was created by a direct descendant of one of the royal diamond cutting families in India, home to the greatest diamond cutters in history.

How does a diamond get it’s sparkle? Facets disperse light which gives the diamond it’s brilliance and sparkle. The Smyth Princess Cut Diamond has an amazing 89 facets, compared to the standard of 50. The pattern of the extra facets enables the diamond to refract much more light, creating an extraordinary brilliance beyond compare.

The beauty of The Smyth Princess Cut Diamond is the arrangement of the extra 39 facets; 20 more on the crown, 4 more on the girdle and 15 more on the pavilion. This pattern created by reengineering and creating new facets enables the diamond to refract the maximum light. The architecture of this diamond reduces light leakage to an absolute minimum. This beautiful pattern creates prisms of light which is what the eye sees as scintillation.

The Smyth Princess Cut Diamond has chamfered corners instead of pointed corners that can be easily broken when a ring is bumped against a hard object. Setters appreciate the strength and integrity of these chamfered corners as they do not have to worry about them chipping these beautiful diamonds when setting them. The setter is able to create a more secure setting on the corners that protects the diamond.
